To protect our homes, we can create firewise communities.

We can also recreate large forested landscapes that are resilient to wildfire and other disturbances by using science-based techniques to remove small trees, brush, and other flammable material on lands away from communities, which also allows fire managers to use prescribed fire to create resilient forests. These treatments protect old growth trees and forests, sensitive wildlife habitat, clean water, and recreational opportunities such as hiking, hunting, and camping, and also produce timber byproducts that have important economic value for local communities. Harvesting timber can be an important tool to restore large landscapes, if it is done in the right place with the right methods.
