Over 55% of the U.S. Forest Service’s budget is consumed by fighting fires.

But unlike other natural disaster assistance and relief funds, that money is raided from other forest management programs that would prevent and reduce forest fire impacts, costs, and safety risks to firefighters and the public. It’s a dangerous pattern that is undermining healthy forests and puts communities at risk.
